I have just submitted a patch to libtiff’s tiffsplit utility to allow for numbered output instead of incremented letters. The total number of images that can be processed is greater. We’ll use this at work. I’m hoping that it gets included in some modified version in future versions of the utility. There’s a bug open so someone will look at it eventually. This utility was written in C. I am not an expert at wrangling strings in C. There was a lot of pointer arithmetic involved.

The Free Software Foundation launched their Defective By Design campaign, which had people protesting digital restrictions management in hazmat suits. The pictures are pretty cool. It’s about time we had some activisim on this front. We’re going down a scary road; and, yes, I want artists/scientists/creators to be rewarded for their work.
