Guest of Honor

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

The most amazing thing happened tonight.

(11:34:47 PM) KolalaKitty: Hey!
(11:34:52 PM) KolalaKitty: Con!!!!!!
(11:35:53 PM) Lugae: Yeah
(11:35:57 PM) Lugae: Have I got a story for you
(11:36:00 PM) KolalaKitty: okay….
(11:36:07 PM) Lugae: So you know mandar and I are huge dorks
(11:36:11 PM) KolalaKitty: yeah….
(11:36:16 PM) Lugae: Like with regards to the whole con setup thing, right?
(11:36:39 PM) KolalaKitty: oh, btw, Amy would like to request that when you check us into the hotel, you ask if we can get adjoining rooms like we had at acen
(11:37:00 PM) Lugae: We have rooms next to each other, but they can’t tell me if they are adjoining or not. I talked to them about that five minutes ago.
(11:37:13 PM) KolalaKitty: [21:52] chaos_maiden42: i wonder if our rooms are going to be adjoining like at acen…..
[21:52] chaos_maiden42: that would fucking rock

(11:37:16 PM) KolalaKitty: that was from last night
(11:37:32 PM) Lugae: Yeah, I asked them for it when I made the reseveration, when I confirmed, and just a minte ago
(11:37:39 PM) KolalaKitty: cool. you rock!
(11:37:48 PM) KolalaKitty: so anyway.. what about you and mandar being dorks?
(11:38:04 PM) Lugae: So you know that we’ve done the con setup thing in the past, right?
(11:38:17 PM) KolalaKitty: yeah….
(11:38:39 PM) Lugae: Well, I took the afternoon off and she had the whole day off… we opted to waste the gas and go out there to do it again this year
(11:38:42 PM) Lugae: It’s so much fun
(11:38:50 PM) KolalaKitty: oh
(11:38:52 PM) KolalaKitty: I figured you would
(11:39:00 PM) Lugae: Good, so at least that comes as no surprise
(11:39:11 PM) KolalaKitty: uh, no
(11:39:12 PM) Lugae: So we’re volunteering along our merry way
(11:39:34 PM) Lugae: We manage to be in the bridge when they say something about a guest problem
(11:40:33 PM) Lugae: They have a guest stranded in Denver that will be potentially be stuck in Des Moines. We’re like, "hey! we’re from Des Moines!" One things leads to another and they ask that if they need, can we drive the guest to the con, ’cause they seem to think that we’re responsible from vague reccollection.
(11:40:45 PM) KolalaKitty: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
(11:41:00 PM) Lugae: So we’re like, "Hell yeah!"
(11:41:15 PM) KolalaKitty: so.. where is this Guest currently?
(11:41:18 PM) Lugae: They take Mandar’s number down and say that they’ll call to let us know what they decide.
(11:41:21 PM) KolalaKitty: and what guest is it?
(11:41:24 PM) Lugae: He’s stuck in Denver.
(11:41:24 PM) KolalaKitty: oh, okay
(11:41:36 PM) Lugae: Jonathan Klein
(11:42:00 PM) Lugae: We don’t get a call, because they took down the number incorrectly.
(11:42:17 PM) Lugae: We’re walking back to the tech room, which is by the bridge.
(11:42:24 PM) Lugae: They see us walk by and they’re like "Hey!!"
(11:43:00 PM) Lugae: So we go back in and they’re like, "So we’d like to have you pick this guy up at the airport. His flight doesn’t come in until 2:54 pm, though."
(11:43:33 PM) Lugae: We didn’t think that it would be that late. Either tonight or really early in the morning or something… but with flights to Des Moines, you take what you get, which you can probably vouch for more than anyone.
(11:44:11 PM) Lugae: We’re like, "Alright," because it sounds like they’ve already booked him everything. And they had, hotel room in Denver, plane tickets, and all. If we’d have said "no" they would have been REALLY fucked.
(11:44:28 PM) Lugae: So now Mandar and I are bringing a guest of honor to the con.
(11:44:39 PM) KolalaKitty: thats funny
(11:44:57 PM) KolalaKitty: well apparently Kate didnt get sat off, so now shes coming tomorrow
(11:44:57 PM) Lugae: And when we get there, we’re to go to the bridge, where he will be taken care of and someone will escort Mandar and I to registration.
(11:45:07 PM) KolalaKitty: so we’ll have kate and macay chilling with us tomorow night
(11:45:14 PM) Lugae: We’ll get to skip the line to get our badges since it’ll be like 4:30.
(11:45:16 PM) KolalaKitty: amy et al will be arrive around 630
(11:45:23 PM) Lugae: Okay.
(11:45:32 PM) Lugae: So, Josh, Ronda, and Zach will still leave early.
(11:45:45 PM) KolalaKitty: i should get to con about 5
(11:45:50 PM) Lugae: I’ve made arrangements with the hotel to allow Zach to check in on his own.
(11:45:54 PM) KolalaKitty: 530 at the latest
(11:46:03 PM) Lugae: So it should be pretty transparent to everyone else.
(11:46:43 PM) KolalaKitty: cool
(11:46:43 PM) Lugae: So here’s some phone numbers if you get there and we’re delayed for some reason…
(11:46:48 PM) KolalaKitty: HAHAHAHA
(11:46:50 PM) KolalaKitty: alrighty

This is going to rock, hard core. I knew that there was a reason that we should waste gas on setup all those times! We’re officially trusted by people that only remember our faces.

A Little Closer

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

This weekend was nice. I’m officially ready for work to be done for the week and to have time off. Plans for this weekend seem to be coming along really well. Everyone seems to be in agreement about transportation and things that we need. I feel as if things are well organized. We shall see as the date approaches. Even if it’s not well organized, things will go great and I will have an awesome time. I heart the floating world.

The sunroof on my car broke this weekend. I have to take it in to get it fixed tomorrow. Thankfully, I’m renting a garage, so I can keep the water out of the car. I might also mention that it’s great that it’s finally raining. It was really, really icky this last week, especially this weekend.

I finally finished Cowboy Bebop. It was one of those really embarrassing holes in my watched list. I was kind of amused when I started watching it, though, because, while I knew I had seen some of the series, I was not sure how much if it I had seen. Apparently, I had already seen the first five episodes. I accidentally spoiled the ending for my sister as well. For whatever reason, I knew how it ended before watching. I’m not sure if someone showed me the ending or what, but I definitely knew what happened. The ending was still more powerful after having actually seen the series from the beginning, though. Also, the series got really awesome at the end as people started to part ways. I’m glad I finally got this series watched.

A boy at the store likes me, but he knows that I’m not available. I hope things don’t turn awkward or even better, I’m wrong about the whole thing.

Work’s going to be getting busy here soon. I keep saying that, but we keep getting delays from the client. However, I think that the delays are over. Only problem is that I found out that I will be completely switching up some stuff that I’ve already done as well as implementing some mystery functionality, which we have yet to get exact specifications on. Also, I found out that I have to do some more testing with the web service that I wrote back in April. I hate web service programming, because it takes too much time to verify. Plus, the toolkit that I have to work with isn’t exactly well documented. Still, a toolkit is better than nothing. To see the response, I was originally telnetting into the web server and issuing HTTP commands by hand. That was a complete pain in the ass. If I messed up the HTTP request, I had to reconnect and type it in correctly from scratch!
