Do As I Please

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

Vacation has started out good. I haven’t done a whole lot, but that’s okay. I went to breakfest this morning with Beth, Josh, Jessie H., Katie, and Diana. That was fun. The waiter was incredibly cute, and probably underage. Oops. I guess it’s not like I hit on him or anything. I’m just saying…anyway.

Beth got me this book of Yoshitaka Amano’s artwork. Apparently a book of his complete set of prints from some time on the 90’s to 2002. I got a chance to flip through it today. It was truly awesome. Amano is an amazing artist, and I have to say that if I could get a professional print of the drawing Street, which was the cover for the Japanese versoin of Final Fantasy VI, I would.. It’s amazing how he dark browns, purples, and blacks with the plain white for a sky to contrast Terra sitting on top of the Magitek armor in bright red. Very cool.

After flipping through the book, I fell asleep for the rest of the afternoon. I was awakened by my landlord calling to tell me that he’ll be over in a little while with my new refridgerator. It’ll be nice to have a refridgerator again. I was using the window sill in my bedroom to take care of that, being careful that nothing was too full in case it were to freeze.

I’m excited to be off until next year. I have to work at the store for four hours on the 26th and 27th, but that shouldn’t be too bad. Yes, we will be busy, but I will get to do claims during that time, so whatever gets done, gets done. Other than that, I get to do pretty much whatever the hell I want for the rest of the year. I’m excited, because I’ve needed the break for quite some time.

I may do some work from home over break, though. I got tasked by a friend at work with writing a program in C or C++ to shuffle images from TIFF files and place them onto PDFs 6-up at the last minute at work on Friday. It should be cool, so if I get the urge to code I have all I need with my on CD. If I have no urge to code, no work gets done! I love vacation!

Nebraskon Photos

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

I finally got the photos of Anime Nebraskon put up. I still need to take care of those pesky Anime Iowa photos for this year. Even though I lost my camera during the cosplay, Ronda sent me the pictures that she had so that I could have some documentation of our amazing journey. I’ll have to do those soon.

Setting up the Nebraskon photos reminded me how awesome F-Spot is for photo management. I really like that I can import everything and tag it and then select a bunch of photos and have it make nice web galleries for me to share with people without the use of Flickr or Gallery (which is also supports). My only requested features is to be able to gamma adjust photos within the application for those times when I have photos where the flash shouldn’t have gone off in good light and I get a dark photo. I didn’t take the time to adjust these photos, but compared to some, they were pretty good.
