To the Library

I’m currently trying to get Banshee to compile on my computer. I haven’t done much compiling since I used Mandrake Linux back when the GNU Compiler Collection version 3.0 was just getting into common use. As a result, a lot of things out on the Internet were not conmpatable with my new compiler. Such is life when there are major changes to such an important part of the operating system.

Since I’ve switched to Debian, basically everything I’ve wanted has been built and packaged for me so I can use APT to download whatever I need and install it in the right order. Unfortuantely, Banshee is not part of Debian testing, it’s only in the unsable repository. As a result, I must compile. I’ve forgotten just how many development libraries one has to get to be able to do this kind of stuff. It’s fine after you get some of the major stuff out of the way. A new application may need one or two new libraries isntalled and you’re ready to compile. Unfortunately, I have none of that.

I’m really hoping to get Banshee installed.
