I had my primary job code changed at the store. This change resulted in a hefty raise. The reasoning was that if I was spending half of my time working in claims that I should receive the higher pay rate. With this change, I’ve regained my lost claims powers.

About three years ago, several of the programs that we use in claims were changed to enforce stricter rules on who can use them. Just because a user has a right to use a program does not mean that all functions of the program will be available. The problem with this is that the programs only look at your primary job code, instead of checking to see if maybe you’re supposed to be able to do these things. Now that my primary job code is correct, I can do my job correctly instead of leaving work for Kim.

Ronda asked me tonight if I was at all nervous about just jumping in and doing these things. I told her that I wasn’t nervous at all. The fact is that since I’ve had these powers before I’m more than comfortable deciding when to fore go persuing credit and to write something off as a loss. Yes, I’m spending budgeted dollars of the store’s money, but I’m confident about when and when not to take a markdown. It really is just that I used to deal with it so frequently and that I’ve done claims for a good while now.

For example, I will not keep a fifty cent piece of merchandise that is not a frequently claimed item in a claim until we reach $10. Claims can only be open for 45 days, as we’re not going to get twenty in the next 45 days and have enough time to call the vendor and convince them to give us credit. It just isn’t going to happen. Take that markdown!

I do not know why I felt it necessary to write about markdowns and inventory adjustments for that long, but I just did. I worked all day, so I guess that I’m just “downloading” what’s happened today: work.

In other job-related news, I’m doing a couple of trainings on Wednesday. It will be a relief to get them done. After that, I will only have to worry about getting trainings for the other two facilities. All in good time, I guess.
