Unfortunement

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

You know what’s unfortunate?

The Enlightenment project will probably never gain major mindshare as a desktop shell/environment. The project has been at release DR16 for so long that (like five years) it will be really hard for all of the cool stuff in DR17 to get seen by most people. The stuff in DR17 is going to be worth seeing, too.

The customizability of the Enlightenment project puts the fun back into computing, and that is why I am eagerly awaiting DR17. I do doubt that we’ll see it this year, but it’s definately coming.

Today went by too quickly. I really don’t feel like I accomplished much.

Work was okay. I was a little worried to talk to a co-worker about the projects that he’d left last week as things to work on when I had time. I didn’t feel that I got enough done. One of the three was close to done, which had been coming; another was midway with questions; the last was not originally mine and turned out to be super-low priority. Unfortunately, I didn’t get enough work done on the middle project this afternoon, but hopefully I can make up for it tomorrow.

My new WordPress template had some progress tonight. While I’m not doing anything amazing, I’m pretty pleased with the results. I’ve put very, very little time into this and I’m getting what I want out of it. If I were a more talented graphic designer, I could probably do some really cool things. Alas, I am not. Another way to get cool effects is to just try and put everything on a page, which I don’t agree with. That makes for a cluttered page. Just because one can, does not mean one should. Probably the best way to get better would be to redesign more often and get practice. Maybe I’ll be more inspired to do that in 2006.
