Gamsatron, Power Up!

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Okay, today I was working with a database who had a lot of settings named gams1. As a result, I made the datasource’s name Gamsatron. Now when I try and run a query, Excel says “Retrieving data from Gamsatron…” I laugh a lot.

Mandar came over so that we could start restoring her Final Fantasy IV game. We are now exiting the Antlion’s cave. It rules.

So That’s What Happened

Craziness ensued the last week.

Beth and I hung out after work on Wednesday. It was a good time. We had dinner, played a game, and watched stuff. Later that evening, I killed my computer. Rather, I bought a new digital camera and wanted to get it to work as a mass storage device so that I could get the pictures off of it. I had previously updated my system’s software. This is all well and good, except that the update did not include the necessary kernel upgrade. As a result, when I booted XFree86 could no longer find the mouse pointer, which means that X11 simply will not start. Thank God for BitchX and Lynx. What I don’t understand is why the new device system was installed without requiring a new kernel upgrade.

Thanksgiving was good. Not a lot of excitement happened at my aunt’s, but it was fun. Later that night, I got home and found out that my sound card wasn’t working on my computer. Paul helped me through that, which was awesome. I wish I had known what was wrong so that I could have fixed it myself, but I guess things have to fail for me to learn. Sometimes, Paul’s my hero.

I worked the rest of the weekend at the store. Things went well. On Sunday when I left we were surprisingly ahead of the game.

Monday, I had the day off from both jobs, and boy did I need it. I was sore as all get out from the weekend. I completed Xenosaga: Episode II and started on Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. Both games are awesome. I really liked this episode of Xenosaga, even after listening to everyone complain about it. The thing is that sometimes certain parts of a story have to be told in order for the rest to make sense. It’s just like in Star Wars how we had to have little Anakin Skywalker in the first movie, because the Dark Lord had to come from somewhere.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne seems to be pretty dark so far. For one thing, I’m playing as a demon and I can only have demons in my party. Then there’s the whole destruction of the world in the first twenty minutes. Yeah, that’ll do it. When the game opens, there is a statement saying that all events are fictional and that the views in the game do not reflect the views of Atlus Games. I find that amusing. In any case, it’s going well enough in the first few hours that I’d like to play Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga I and II at a later date.
