Slow Is Bad

Friday, September 16th, 2005

The labels that I did for the plant across town earlier this week worked out great. Unfortunately, they did not apply the labels to the kits in the bindery as they were making them. As a result, the shipping department had to find each kit out on a pallet and affix the label before scanning it to ship it. The plan was that once a kit was complete, a label would be affixed to the box so shipping would just be getting the box and scanning its barcode. There’s another drop for this job in early October, so we can hope it goes differently.

Some of the major decision makers in getting that plant’s shipping system’s speed were there today watching just how slow it is. I’m hoping that gets things taken care of faster, because I’m tired to taking complaints because the system is so damned slow. I have no control over this other than to report the problem. Hopefully things get moving.

God, my life is boring at times. Then again, I fell asleep last night at 6:30 p.m. I’ve had a cold. I guess nothing has really had the chance to happen except for sleep. I’m feeling better today, though not completely better. I’m hoping for a good weekend. We shall see what ensues.

Three Times

I spent today doing mostly fun things at work. Rather, I didn’t have any large and evil problems to solve. I got to set up a mass ClipperShip load for the plant across town. I took them the labels and when I showed the CSR the labels he said that the most recent e-mail he had forwarded me, which contradicted the others he had sent to me, was incorrect.

I got to come back and redo the whole project over three times. This wasn’t so bad, though, because the worst parts of the project were already done (address parsing). In about another week, I get to do the whole thing yet again for a second drop of the shipments with different quantities.

I’ve been watching my newly acquired The Irresponsible Captain Tylor in the evenings. Even though the series is old, I’m really liking it. I knew I enjoyed the first tape that I had purchased way back in high school, but it’s nice to know that I haven’t outgrown it or anything.
