Anime Central was a good con. It was brought back to my attention that if you cosplay as Squall Lionheart from Final Fantasy VIII, you automatically gain fifteen points on the hot-ness scale. It’s amazing that that costume can do.
There were a few panels that I had wanted to go to, but I didn’t get around to them either in time or at all. For instance, the Spoony Bards were playing in the lobby all weekend. I thought it was particularly cool to walk into the hotel and hear someone playing Millenial Fair from Chrono Trigger as opposed to typical hotel music. Hence, the panel looked interesting. Alas, it was at 9:00 a.m., and I was up until 4:00 a.m. watching fandub parodies (hilarious, as always). I also wanted to go to the panel with Fred Gallagher from MegaTokyo, but I lost track of time and missed that. Oops. I did see him drawing at a booth in the dealer’s room though. Beth and I were going to go to the Mahjong and Green Tea panel, but it was booked by the time that we got there. None of these really mattered that much anyway. I had a good time, and there’s no way that anyone could do everything anyway.
When watching the fandub parodies, I got a chance to see the Neon Genesis Evangelion ReDeath ReDux parody. I missed it two years in a row at Anime Iowa, and I’d wanted to see it from the instant that I heard about it. It was, indeed, hilarious. As was the Cowboy Bebop parody where they were on their way to the largest con in the known universe, ASUX. Absolutely genius stuff, I say.
The SWEK and The Pillows concert were cool, but SWEK was better because I knew some of the songs that they were playing. I’m not familiar with The Pillows, as I’ve never seen Fooly Cooly. Still, it was cool that they got The Pillows to come to the con.
All of this leaves me only more excited for Anime Iowa.
