Flawless Victory

Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

Well, Debian successfully upgraded GNOME. I had some issues with files being missing on the US server, but I think that I needed to update my list. Whilst looking for the files elsewhere, I noticed that the Australian server was way faster, so I just changed to that server and reissued the command. Flawless victory.

I’m enjoying Evolution, which actually learns junk now as opposed to running Spam Assassin behind the scenes and sucking. I’m going to give it another chance, because it handles IMAP a little more responsively than Thunderbird; though Thunderbird is still awesome.

I also took a few minutes and got Mono working again. When playing a few months back, I intentionally started using the wrong software repository to upgrade Mono. That caused some issues with the instalation, so I went back to the older version. It’s not like I’m missing anything, anyway

True Debian

Tuesday, January 18th, 2005

Long day. I’ve been using the Internet more, lately. I think some of it is from reading the book Free Culture. I’ve been enjoying using the Internet more, recently, too. It’s been nice to be able to take a moment and keep up with some of the open source developments lately. Specifically, I’ve been reading about GNOME developments, which should come as no surprise.

Speaking of GNOME, I’m going to put Debian to the test this week and upgrade GNOME. This is a fairly daunting task, and in the land of RPM-based distributions, it can be kind of a pain to figure out what to use without a yum repository. I’m excited to see the true power of Debian.
