Just a Spoonful of Threading Makes the Medicine Go Down

Friday, October 8th, 2004

I solved that pesky problem in MetaWeblogger with EndInvoke from previously. For whatever reason, asychronous callbacks just don’t work with the XML-RPC.NET library. He claims that they do, but things were getting incredible messy trying to figure that out. I now have a solution working by just making my own threads. I’m happy. I also check user input and have an error dialog.

Now that all of my previous, short term goals for MetaWeblogger are complete, I’m not sure where to go next. I could venture into the world of editing posts on the server, keyboard accelerators, saving posts locally. I’ll have to think what I really want to work on for a while.

I applied for two other jobs. They look like jobs that I’m totally qualified for, but we’ll see. It’s been all of one day.

Well, I Think It’d Be Cool

I applied for two new jobs today. Yay! In the process I revised my generic cover letter. It’s now much more technology-centric. I eliminated all of my information about working with Youth Alliance. The reasoning was that this work is already on my resume, and it’s probably not going to attract employers to call me, whereas being able to explain the fact that I can perform a job is more likely. Still on the to-apply list are Principal Financial and Pioneer.

However, not right now! I am off to get some dinner and go watch Strangers with Candy with Josh and Mandy. It should be funny. I called Dean, but he hasn’t called back, which probably means he has to work all night. It’s either open enrollment meetings or an orientation. I’m being good about the open enrollment stuff, because at my store they’re holding so few meetings that I’m unable to get to one.

Joe cleaned out mom’s desk downstairs last night. He found these awesome drawings of Rei and Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion that Jessa did for a Christmas gift for me back in 1999. I’m considering having them framed in some kind of cheap frame, because they’re just really good, and I’d hate to see them gone.

A thought that crossed my mind was the idea of a weblogger’s form of markup. The actual content of a weblog so often has nothing to do with layout. Still, weblogs grow in size all the time, and standards change. Wouldn’t it be neat to use XSLT to transform the content of a weblog into XHTML and then have a cascading style sheet take care of the layout. That way, when XHTML changes, the only change that needs to be made is to the XSLT stylesheet. I think it’d be cool.
