Metadata Mania!

Friday, August 13th, 2004

I was working on applying for jobs. Beth got me sidetracked with website things, though. The comments form is no longer displayed twice, thank God. There was a hidden include statement on the main page’s code. I also changed the archives to have RDF and RSS available for the month that is being displayed.

I removed the skins option, because I’m not going to maintain some of the pages that some skins link to anymore. There is another way to deal with skins, using pure CSS, but that will be a lot of work. So, from now on, everyone has to look at the same design. It’s sad, but I’m just not dealing with it anymore.

Resulting from that, I did make the blogs that I am reading available on the front page in OPML format. Web browsers can’t display this format natively, but news readers can import it. A blogroll would be a neat thing to do with this, but it can wait.

Discounting the changes to the XHTML itself, the theme for all of the updates was to make more metadata available. I find myself using my web browser less and less lately, because of metadata. I read all of my news using Straw, chat with Gaim and XChat, and use Thunderbird as my mailer. The more of this magical metadata, the better.

Der Wille zur Macht

I just finished Episode I of Xenosaga. The ending was, in a word, amazing. I especially liked how as Proto Merkabah was being destroyed, there was the vocal music in the background. It was also nice to hear Joanne Hogg sing another Xeno song. She will always be the first voice that I associate with Xeno saga, though I am to understand that she does not sing for Episode II. I can hardly wait to play Episode II, which I’m hoping will be available during the first quarter of 2005.

One thing that I thought was odd through the ending was that there was a brief flashback, while chaos [sic] was at the dock in the Elsa, which showed Lacan and Ophelia, also known as Fei and Elly, from the former Episode V, Xenogears. This has me even more excited to play the upcoming episodes to see exactly how all of this ties into Episode V. Of course, I’m also simply dying to play Xenosaga Episode V, to see how it differs from Xenogears. Judgy thinks that they will be completely different, but I think that it’s still to early to make that decision, and to have faith that they will be closer to the same than different.

I didn’t sleep at all yesterday. When I got home from work, I tried, but to no avail so I just went to Judgy’s, as planned. A good time was had by all. Nothing amazing happened, but just hanging out was good. Julia is, indeed, the master of Karaoke Revolution. It was also quite amusing to watch Darren and Miricia be Julia’s backup singers through the whole thing.

Unfortunately, the drive home was a total bitch. I was expecting to stay, but it didn’t seem that Judgy was being incredibly hospitable in terms of keeping me for the night, which is very odd. I’m guessing he was wanting some alone time with his new boyfriend, Matt. With that thought, I went ahead and left a little earlier than everyone else, just to make sure that I would be able to make the drive home. About three times driving home I contemplated getting a room and finishing in the morning. It was the toughest drive home, ever. Twenty-eight hours after I woke up the previous day, I lay my head down to rest.
