My First Debian Install

Tuesday, July 13th, 2004

I installed Debian GNU/Linux this evening. Things are working, for the most part. I have a GNOME setting that makes me unable to log into GNOME, but I can use the GNOME failsafe option. I’m very much confused there. There’s also an error with the way that my network is setup. The setup tool, which I can’t find anymore, set me up as being on the network of example.com, which is not right at all.

Other than that, things are in relatively good order. Beth was all surprised when we were talking on the phone this evening, because I was confused, and, I guess, generally, that doesn’t happy with me and GNU/Linux. Whether that sentiment is true or not, it’s a nice thought. Debian is a bit more work to get running, but I’m to understand that it’s easier to maintain. Besides, who else has GNOME 2.6? I think that, all in all, Debian will be a good learning experience.

I thought that the job interview went fabulous today. I really hope I get it. The two that interviewed me were really nice, and I’d like to work for the company. Here’s hoping.

PI Cannot Be Used for This Price Change

I got to leave work early today, which was nice. I was out of hours. I was tardy this morning, so I asked Jenny to look up my attendence tracking. Apparently, I have no unapproved attendence issues right now (including tardies). That is absolutely amazing. I’m tardy at least once a week, and tardies turn into unapproved absences if there are three unapproved ones. Apparently, whoever does my attendence tracking likes me.

I have to go to the Altoona store Sunday morning, because they inventory on like Monday. We’re going to test scan merchandise, which isn’t that exciting at all. I have to be at our store at 6:30 a.m. I am totally not excited for that. Thankfully, the family leaves for vacation this evening, so I can spend tomorrow night at Dean’s and go to work with Kim, since she’ll be helping too. Apparently, Ted, my store manager, was really pushing for me to go help on this. I don’t understand this, because, while I do special projects, I never report back to Ted. I’m curious where this faith in me has come from.

I have a job interview on Monday. I’m way excited. The job looks well within my grasp to perform. I just hope that I interview well. I’d really like to have this job. It’s in Des Moines, too, which would be nice.

Things are better on the Youth Alliance front. I think that the venue will get set just fine for the Beach Bash, and I have some things in the works to help improve youth satisfaction and involvement in our programs. As I’ll be gone next week, I won’t be able to start them right away, but hopefully week after next I can get something rolling. Besides, next week the role of the layaway manager will be played by me. I’m not saying that it’s anything that I don’t normally do, but I rarely work those hours doing that job.

I reserved our room for Anime Iowa this afternoon. It’s more expensive than I expected, but I don’t even care. IU can save the money before September 17th. I am way excited.
