Job Whoring Once More

Tuesday, February 17th, 2004

So the interview with the Iowa State people was a bit awkward. As much as it was said to be a pre-screening interview, I felt like I might have dodged the questions a bit. Oops. The most awkward part was that I was on speaker-phone with three people interviewing me at once. They said that they’d call this week if they’re interested for a second interview. I received no calls yesterday, and I forgot my phone today so who knows?

Today was career fair day. I went and talked to the companies that I was interested in. One said that they’d send me an e-mail tonight if they had a spot for me to interview in tomorrow. Kinglad let me know all about their internship opportunities, which I’m not looking for. One guy kept trying to talk to me about hardware when I kept insisting that I wanted to know about software. Finally, I just let him go.

The sex test today wasn’t as good as I had hoped. It wasn’t incredibly bad, but the anatomy was a little more in depth than I had figured. I’ll have to study harder for the next two tests in that class. I still think I did okay, though.

I’m slowly catching up on my anthropology reading. I’m going to rey and read 1.5 chapters tonight and 1.5 chapters tomorrow afternoon so that I can take my quiz relatively early tomorrow. All the while, I have to study for my philosophy test on Thursday and go job whoring again tomorrow.

I should really call the law office for Youth Alliance this week, too, but we’ll just see how my free time plays out. Busy week!

T Minus 15 Minutes

Yesterday was a long day. After class I had e-mails saying that HJR 2003 was making progress and that it would be brought before the Iowa House on Monday. The bill was designed to make same-sex marriage against the state’s constitution completely. I wrote all several representatives asking them not not vote in favor of this or any similar legislation. I got responses from three saying that they wouldn’t. One even went as far as to say that there were far more important things to be doing, like working on the budget and education, than making mean-spirited laws. The bill died in committee at about 2:00 p.m. that afternoon. It lost its backing. Victory for now!

Board meeting at 5:00 p.m. I had a million things to run off and collate when I got home. Of course, either the computers here either didn’t have a PDF viewer or wouldn’t recognize my flash memory (damn Windows 98). I got stuff collated while talking on the phone with Mandy, and ran out the door on the phone carrying way too much stuff. I got to the meeting, and I found out that I had printed the wrong version of the document. Doh! The board meeting went well, though.

When I got home, I had an e-mail from Dean saying that legislation at the federal level was going in the same direction. At least to the point that the Human RIghts Campaign had issued an action alert. Here we go again, sending faxes to the White House. After I had spread the word to everyone about that to people and talked with Chris, I decided that I was done for the day. I relaxed for the rest of the night.

All in all, yesterday was a dark day for equality.

I’m waiting around now for the Iowa State people to call for my phone interview. “T” minus fifteen minutes!
