New Year: The Return of UNIX Love

My computer works again. It feels good to be back to UNIX tradition. I spent so much time doing .NET development using Windows last semester and then having my computer’s hardware go out on me that I’ve not got nearly enough UNIX love. I can use forward (also read: correct) slashes again, and my files live in /home/julian again (read: somewhere logical). And I get my desktop back (read: sexy).

Jessica and I have watched some episodes of Fushigi Yuugi this break. It’s been good times. I haven’t seen that anime for a long time, so it’s been fun to watch Miaka be crazy again. She’s so ditzy and it’s with full honesty, which makes the series highly entertaining to watch.

I still need to pick up a volume of Ceres so that I’ll have the whole series. That will mean that I will have to marathon the hell out of my Ceres DVDs. Maybe I’ll see if anyone’s interested in that once I get the DVDs. Marathoning anime is so much more fun in a group. Last year I had no one to watch Gasaraki with so I ended up watching it alone. It was a little boring, not because of the anime, but because of the lonliness factor. Must get at least one other person for Ceres.

I read a year in review article for free/open source software this morning. It was incredibly interesting to read all of the things that happened in the last year. I found myself thinking, “That happened this year? I thought that was last year.” All in all, 2003 was a great year for free/open source software. Lots of strides were made, despite efforts against it, such as SCO’s lawsuit against IBM. Hopefully, without these kinds of annoyances in 2004, the next year can be even better.
