Thanksgiving Poker

Thursday, November 27th, 2003

Today’s been mostly productive on the poker front. I’m able to pass the proverbial Betting Talking Stick from player to player. That is, the players can all take their turn betting in sequence around the table synchronosly. The betting functions, except for fold actually work too. Once the rounds are able to be made more completely, folding shouldn’t be terrible difficult.

I got off of work early today. That was fairly exciting. We had six people there at 3:00 p.m., so I volunteered to get out of there. The things that I had set out to do this week were done, so that was good enough for me. The sale on Friday should be pretty fun to work. I’m excited for the Blitz goodness. I would say that my excitement mostly comes from logistical and co-worker amusement views.

Tomorrow we’re going to my aunt Suz’s for Thanksgiving dinner. There will be much coding and a lot of eating food. It should be fairly good times. I’m really, really hoping to get the basics of betting done tomorrow. That way, it’s mostly debugging and network discovery next week. I have enough going on next week what with statistics homework and an exam the same day as this project’s package is due. I’m meeting with my tutor four times next week to get ready for the theory of computing exam. I’d best not fuck that exam up like I did my statistics exam.

I think that I’m off to bed so that I can get up in time to leave and not be rushed in the morning.

Poker Love

Monday, November 24th, 2003

Poker Love continues. I think I may name my poker server the Poker Love Server. I haven’t decided yet. I’ve almost got things set up so that players can ante. I’m trying to think about how to do it though such that I can reuse bits of it later for general betting rounds. The problem is that An ante is best modeled as an asynchronos event, and betting in general is entirely synchronos. I’m probably going to have to sit down today and draw some diagrams for how function calls should work.

Work this weekend was psychotic as usual. Actually, Saturday was our biggest day yet this year. Still, Friday will be the largest day for the entire year, but that’s the miracle of Blitz day, I guess. There was a lot of merchandise for Friday sitting in our layaway bins this weekend. There were all of the Garanimals sweats in boxes marked in neon orange, “BLITZ.” Kim Mosby and I promptly got up there and started moving them. It’s nice to stand on top of the bins and just walk around. Its like layaway nirvana. All that’s visible are layaways, and there are no packages to put away because, well, they are all on the ground lacking visibility.

Tonight I’m going to Safe Space with Jesse to talk to the youth about a community planing session that the two of us are working on for early 2004. We’re going to go explain what we’ve been working on and try to get some input from the youth. Take that for a youth organization not listening to youth input!
