Moving Cars Are Bad, Mm’kay?
Life has been exciting this past weekend, mostly last night. Some time last night Joe decided that it would be a good idea to jump from a moving vehicle. Apparently his friends were joking around that they weren’t going to take him to his car. Since he was in Alleman about a block from his car he either decided to or joked about and failed saying that he was just going to get to his car by leaving the car at twenty-five miles per hour.
At 6:30 p.m. last night I get this call saying that I need to come to the hospital. Joe is kind of banged up. He’s going to be okay, but I should be there. The doctors said that he was three centimeters on both sides of the optic nerve from having that nerve being cut, and hence going blind. He’s okay, though. When I saw him the first time, he was kind of embarassed to have us all with him in the hospital room. He didn’t want us to see him like he was. We waited for him to undergo some plastic surgery until about 11:00 p.m., when they let us hang out with him in the recovery room.
Apparently, since it was my parents wedding anniversary, he tried telling his friends that he didn’t need to go to the hospital. The friends could see his skull and said, “No, Joe. You need an ambulance.” When he was on the morphine at first, Joe kept saying, “I’m going to be fine,” and other random, repetitive phrases. His blood pressure was also rediculously high, since he knew that he was going into surgery at any time.
We all finally got home at about 12:45 a.m. this morning. Joe is doing much better. He’s still kind of slow, but he’s decided that he’s never jumping from a moving vehicle again. Work at eight today was very long as a result of my lack of sleep.
I really don’t understand what posessed him to do this at all. Joe is an incredibly laid back individual. It’s not like him to do something rash when he gets upset. It’s not like him to even really get upset. I’m hoping that it was just a decision that came out of being with friends, but I plan to get the entire story out of him when he’s feeling better and there are no parents or health care professionals around.
