Worus

I took the time to upgrade my b2 to WordPress tonight. I’ve been meaning to upgrade b2 for a long time now, but I just never got around to it for some reason. Much to my surprise, apparently WordPress is becoming the new branch of b2. I’m glad to see that the development will continue.

I ran across all of this last night. I wasn’t sure what to make of it. At the time, I was trying to decide how I was going to find something to exercise my computer science-ness in this summer. I really, really need to do something. My idea was to write a client for the GNOME desktop that worked like a blogger or w.bloggar and make it compatable with as many APIs as possible.

After realizing that compilation on Linux can be a bitch at times, and since I will most likely switch from Mandrake Linux to Red Hat Linux since Mandrake’s latest release has performance issues, I didn’t see the point of tracking down libraries that I won’t even be using in under a month. Then I read that WordPress needed help. I thought that this would be a great idea because I could get experience with things like the Blogger API and other neat weblog things. The experience would be great for me, and I would get to fix the coding bug that I have making an itch. With enough learning, I could potentially write that other program.

The other nice aspect is that working on WordPress would give me the opportunity to give back to the open source community. I have taken so much from this community. Everyone has, really, but specifically me, who does not use proprietary software unless it is absolutely necessary. This is a tool that I have used, and I have the opportunity to improve it. I would like to do that.

Of course, this was only an inquiry about helping, so I probably shouldn’t analyze it too much. I just know that I would enjoy it. We’ll see if they need help after all or not, I guess. I’ll just go to bed so that I can work tomorrow, which will be a total bitch due to the hours, and see what happens.
