The College Adventure Episode VI: Logic Strikes Back

Tuesday, August 27th, 2002

Continuing the college adventure, today was the first day of classes. It sucked, but that was a given. For a day that is predispositioned to suck, the day actually faired quite well. my physics professor is easy to understand when he speaks, unlike so many computer science professors. Also, on the way into physics this morning, I saw Angie who used to facilitate Safe Space. Exciting. I think physics is going to be a bitch.

When walking around campus later, I saw Kevin from work. Apparently he’s living in Ames and going to ISU now. Hold on, while I wipe the drool off my face. I’m pathetic, and I know it.

I also saw Elena from Spanish last fall in my adventures before discrete math (one of the three shunned, undergraduate computer science courses). She talked to me for a good while, which was kind of suprising. We talked in Spanish, but not that much, and it was an entire year ago now. It was still a nice talk.

Discrete math was odd. Luke is in that class, so it will help. He left his room number on my syllabus so that I can drop by to do homework with him. I’ll have to take advantage of that. I’m scared for that class, but I get the feeling that somehow I’ll do just fine.

I have speech lecture with Beth, too. That’s nice. Lecture was boring, but that class sounds easy for the most part.

The college adventure continues…

I Can’t Afford Drugs — I Watch Anime

Sunday, August 25th, 2002

This weekend was AnimeIowa, and it was awesome. There’s something about asking Sir Auron, Lulu, and Vash to get out of the way that’s appealing. All of the people doing cosplay made my laugh, because apparently there was a smaller conference going on in the hotel this weekend as well. I’m sure they were thrilled.

I bought a whole bunch of posters and CDs in the dealers’ room. I definately spent way too much money, but I like everything I got;so I’m willing to go with it.

Last night Jessie, Beth, and I went to the Cosplay show. That was cool. There were some really good entries. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Shampoo walk around on Stage.

After the Cosplay, we went to the Dance Dance Revolution Tournament. There are some psycho dancers, let me tell you. One guy got over 200 combos on the “Heavy” setting. However, preceding the Dance Dance Revoltion Tournament, there was a Bomberman tournament. This lasted for an hour. By the end we were all screaming “Princess!” It was a nerdy spectator sport.

Also, I was really suprised at the size of the Con. Apparently, AnimeIowa is the second largest volunteer-run effort in the midwest. I thought it was going to be some small, local Con, but it was really well put together.

School starts tomorrow and I’m not excited at all. At times I’ve been excited for school to start, but not a whole lot. Just enough due to the fact that it was about three weeks away. Now it’s a day away and I really don’t want to go back. I get done at noon and 3, though, and that will be a nice change.
