Wonderful Workshop

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2002

The workshop went great. it was scary at first. They ask us to talk about ourselves. That’s really hard to do without being given some kind of reference point as to what to describe about myself. There’s just so much to each individual person, and none of it seems relevant when asked to just describe oneself.

I scored funding for prom, too. This guy wants us to go to the Gilbert schools and do a training session. We’re going to ask him for $1000, because Linda and Howard think we can get it.

Another older woman came up to us afterwards and told us that she was glad that we spoke (amongst many people), and she told us that she had two sons and that they were both gay. She said that she couldn’t have asked for anything better and that she loves them very much. That was awesome to hear.

¿Hablas comigo?

I had a speaking partner in Spanish today! That was absolutely wonderful. I rarely get the chance to just sit and talk Spanish with someone for thirty to forty-five minutes. It wasn’t good Spanish, but it was still way nice.

I also found out I’m going to get a B in that class, provided I don’t fuck up the final exams. I’m excited.

I’m going to be on some panel at a workshop on working with LGBT youth this afternoon. I really have no idea what’s going to happen. I just know I’m supposed to be on the panel. Mike is coming, too, so there will be someone else that I know there at least.

There was an article in the Daily about online journals today. It was strange to see something that I really like doing publicized main-stream. The article was okay, nothing fantastic. One thing did bother me about it, though. The Daily seemed to take the position that online journals are great for college students. What bothered me was the kind of attitude that it’s good for college students, because they are college students, therefore they must like it. It just screamed “labeling” to me.
