I started to do my taxes today so that I can pay my tuition when the time comes considering the added expense of a transmission. I made enough money this year that I actually had to pay taxes, which we weren’t expecting. The other thing that I wasn’t expecting when I started to file my taxes was the forms that I would have to fill out. I wasn’t able to fill out a 1040EZ. I had to fill out the long form and answer questions about if I was taxed in foreign countries, how much taxable income I had from an employee stock puchase plan ($0.03), if I had paid fees on my car this year, if I had kids, and if I had fish. Well, maybe not fish, but I didn’t go through all of the deduction finders, so there very well may have been one for fish. I should buy some fish and file an ammended return.

French test tomorrow. Much scariness. The man is impossible to please as is, and he’s given us way too much material for a test–even if it is almost two hours. My French professor is really hung up on four levels of interpretation in cinema. I checked the course description, we are, in fact, supposed to be learning history through French film, not history of French film.It’s getting really old. I have trouble seeing how that could be accomplished when we’re watching things like Beauty and the Beast and talking about Jean Renoir’s views in universal brotherhood around the time of World War II. The latter example is closer, but we haven’t learned anything about France’s involvement in World War II. I was kind of looking forward to the history aspect of the class. Instead we’re looking for four levels of meaning in everything and analyzing why directors used extreme long shots instead of close-ups. He wants us to prepare notes for two different essays, as well. I’m going to school early tomorrow, so I’ll prepare those then.

From the transition from high school to college I’ve noticed something strange. It seems that I make two female friends to every male friend I make. I have no idea why that is. Should I be alarmed? I don’t think so, but it is kind of strange.
